Chairman’s Report 2022/23

WF8 retains strong numbers in terms of young people choosing to be part of Scouting. I would like to thank our excellent leaders, volunteers and helpers without whom we cannot operate. We must not fail to acknowledge the huge amount of work in not only attending the weekly meetings but also the time they commit to planning, maintaining their training and certification and generally running around to make everything happen.

You will hear more from Matt our GSL about the development of leaders who are continuing to develop as Scouting leaders in support of young people. We have finished the concrete pathway with stones to tidy the path area. We are now in the process of building shelving in the new garage to better store our scouting equipment. We have embarked on keeping our perimeter trimmed with a little light topiary, to make our Scout grounds look tidy.

The Groups finances remain on a sound basis and have been enhanced by donations from the Monday Night Group, Easyfundraising and Gift Aid. The group has a website through which most of our communications are posted and the group can also be followed on Twitter. We said goodbye to Beverley Priest who remained as Treasurer until the end of March 23; Serena Gammond also decided to step down from the committee and we thank them both for their hard work and support.

Vikki Baker and Roger Alltree have agreed to continue as trustees and we would like to thank Vikki in the role as Secretary and also Roger who continues to make a valuable contribution in the maintenance of the hut. We look forward to working with them over the next 12 months. We have received one new nomination from Sarah O’Neil to join the group trustees; however, we are in need of more parent/carer volunteers to ensure representation from Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs.

The small section of people who put in time and effort to keep things running would welcome additional help behind the scenes to keep WF8 Scout Group remain as successful as it is. I stepped down from my role as Chairman at the end of March to take on the vacant role of Group Treasurer so that the group could continue to operate financially, therefore creating a vacancy for Chairperson which is currently unfilled.

WF8 remains a strong group with healthy numbers of young people and a growing leadership team acknowledging that we are grateful to have volunteers carrying out training in order to progress.

Louise Alltree Chair of WF8 Group Executive Committee
